If you'll be driving when you're out of the country, make sure you get an International Driver's License!
The United States State Department recommends to get an international driver's license before you leave the USA. The test overseas is difficult, and you can't drive on some of the toll (better quality) roads without showing an IDL. Many of the car rental services also insist on an international driver's license before renting a car to you!
